Japan trip – Spring 2018

The time is here again – Japan trip – Spring 2018.

Koitrips will be leaving to Japan in the next 24 hours for our second trip of 2018.

We will of course be joined by 2 other clients, one returning customer and a new customer.
The clients are both dealers who are taking time to visit Japan and hand pick their own Koi, this is to source the very best Koi for their clients, not just buy off a list.

This time of year the breeders have sold many of their smaller Tosai (Up to 25cm) and most have been shipped back to countries all over the world.

Now the breeders will be selecting what Koi they will keep to grow on during the Summer months. They only have a certain amount of space to grow these Koi and they will have to let some of the Koi go. If they had more ponds, they would keep as many as possible, many of them just don’t have the ponds or staff to be able to do this.

Breeding season is coming up very fast so they will use many ponds for their new fry. Plus they have separate ponds for their 2 years old, 3 years olds and Jumbo Koi. So even a small breeder will need a minimum of 20 mud ponds just to be able to breed 2 sets of parents. Space is valuable and not all can be grown. Thats where we look! We want the Koi they would certainly keep in the ponds, but just cannot.

So this is a great time to buy some beautiful Jumbo Tosai.
